INDOL-3-CARBINOL considered as novel food
As our technical team has learned from official sources, the components INDOL-3-CARBINOL and/or its metabolite DIINDOLYLMETHANE have been considered as unauthorized novel foods.
Due to the notification received throughout the European Union of food supplements containing this ingredient, and after discussion within the Novel Foods Working Group of the European Commission, it has been concluded that with the information currently available on this component, its safe consumption cannot be affirmed.
Therefore, it is not authorized for use in the manufacture of food supplements or the marketing of products containing this ingredient. In addition, the application of mutual recognition is not possible since the consideration of unauthorized New Food applies to the entire territory of the European Union, including Spain.
As a result, the Public Catalogue of Novel Foods has modified the entries for these components.
