The Food Supplements sector grows 7% in Spain

The food supplements sector increased by 7% for the second consecutive year according to the ‘Dbk de informa’ report to which Bio-dis laboratories has access. In this post we will present some data that stand out from this report and that confirms the growth that this market continues to experience.

The consumption of dietary products increased 130 million annually in 3 years.

In 2015 the market for dietary products moved 835 million euros, in 2016 it reached 900 million, in 2017 around 965 million and they expect this increase to continue growing in the coming years.

39% of sales in the sector are from food supplements.

Food supplements reach 39% of sales (about 350 million euros per year) in 2017, foods for metabolic disorders and enteral nutrition 29%, products for hypocaloric diets 14%, specific dietary foods 11% and 5% medicinal herbs (about 65 million euros).

In Spain, 651 companies sell food supplements.
