These countries, in addition to being guided by European regulations &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/ES\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32002L0046\">Directive 2002\/46\/EC<\/a> &#8211; are also governed by national regulations. In this post we will explain what are the basic specifications for exporting food supplements to Slovakia, Estonia, Poland and Romania.<\/p>\n<h2>Vitamins and minerals in food supplements<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong><u>vitamin and mineral composition<\/u><\/strong> of food supplements is determined in Europe by Regulation <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/ES\/ALL\/?uri=CELEX%3A32009R1170\">1170\/2009\/EC<\/a>, but the maximum daily limits for these substances are defined by the Member States.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, in <strong>Slovakia and Estonia<\/strong> there is no established maximum daily intake (MDI). The operator is solely responsible for the safety of his product and must take into account the maximum tolerable intakes defined by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Poland<\/strong>, the MDI cannot exceed 50% of the Nutrient Reference Values (NRV). However, this rule does not apply to products already marketed in other member states of the European Union and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).<\/p>\n<h2>Herbs and other substances in food supplements<\/h2>\n<p>Also, the rules on the composition of <strong><u>herbs and other substances<\/u><\/strong> are not harmonized among Member States:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Slovakian<\/strong> has a specific list of herbs for food supplements and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/growth\/tools-databases\/tris\/en\/index.cfm\/search\/?trisaction=search.detail&amp;year=2017&amp;num=276&amp;mLang=ES\">Belfrit<\/a> list is taken into account with the exception of herbs considered medicinal or psychotropic.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Romania<\/strong>, there is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdep.ro\/pls\/legis\/legis_pck.htp_act?ida=57025\">list of plants authorized<\/a> in food supplements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Poland<\/strong>, for the evaluation of plants and substances, does so on a case-by-case basis by the authorities when notifying the product.<\/p>\n<h2>Notification of food supplements in Eastern Europe<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Slovakia<\/strong>, <strong>Estonia, Romania and Poland<\/strong> require the <strong><u>certification<\/u><\/strong> of food supplements before they are marketed.
