In this standard, products related to the intended food are regulated<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">infants and young children, <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">food for special medical uses and <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Substitutes for the complete diet for weight control.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Therefore, for now <\/span><u><span style=\"color: #000000;\">only these 3 categories<\/span><\/u><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> are the only ones regulated as dietary or special foods. It is these that have specific labeling and composition conditions. That is, that dietary products are not regulated with horizontal food standards such as food supplement legislation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Before the entry into force of this Regulation, in Directive 2009\/39\/EC, foods for people with metabolic diseases related to carbohydrates (diabetics) were considered as dietary foods. But in that directive no specific composition provisions were established for this (it was the same as with food intended for intense muscle wasting, especially for athletes).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Instead, the Commission was urged to prepare a report with its opinion on the need or not to specifically regulate this category of food. The Commission concluded that there is <strong>no scientific basis for establishing specific composition<\/strong> requirements in dietary products regulations.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Therefore, <\/span><u><span style=\"color: #000000;\">until today there has been no need to legislate separately this food group as dietary products regulations, and must comply with the current horizontal food regulations.
